Yammer external Groups coming late November

Yammer now allows you to create a group that includes external users. This is called an external group. You must create the group as an external group – you cannot change an existing group to be an external group after the fact.

The group admin can add external users to the group. In public external groups, other users in the group can suggest that adding an external user, but the admin has control over whether that user is added, and has to approve the addition of the external member. In private external groups, only the admin can add external members, just like in private groups today.

Orphaned Application Pools

This is something that I’ve run into from time to time. For whatever reason it maybe, sometimes I need to delete a service applications. You tell SharePoint to delete all data associated with it. It runs for a min or two and it says that the service applications is deleted. Then you go to recreate the service application and it says that the application pool with that name still exists. This is where we will use the SharePoint Management Shell to see what Application Pools are still there.

  1. Run the SharePoint Management Shell as an adminApp pool
  2. Type in: Get-SPServiceApplicationPool | select Id, Name
  3. Let’s say that we are removing the UserProfileServiceApplicationPool
  4. Type in: Remove-SpServiceApplicationPool –Identity “UserProfileServiceApplicationPool”
  5. Then it will ask you if you are sure you want to perform this action, you’ll click Y for yes.
  6. The Application Pool has now been deleted
  7. Now you can recreate the service application with the application pool that you want to use.
